Wings CRS Guerrero Recovery & Resilience Mission: Building Strength After the Storm

In response to recent positive developments, Wings CRS has transitioned from the Hurricane John Emergency Feeding Mission to the Guerrero Recovery & Resilience Mission. This phase focuses on providing essential water and construction support to families in three vulnerable squatter communities in the mountains above Acapulco.

Thanks to a steady supply of trucked-in water, these resilient families are now confidently building permanent, storm-resistant homes, fostering hope and stability for their community.

The Guerrero Mexico Recovery & Resilience Mission’s first water deliveries for the new year and the new mission are underway to bring hope for families.

16 families will each be receiving 500 liters of clean water this weekend to support their new efforts of establishing roots by building new homes on new settlent land provided by the Mexican government.

This is one significant step forward to lift over 200 families out of long-term poverty and Wings CRS is proud to be supporting this effort to bring change to so many fragile lives.

This past week, four water trucks delivered a total of 32,000 liters of clean water for drinking, hygiene, and permanent home construction to 28 of the 200 target families in three mountain communities near Acapulco.

To date, 42 families have benefited from this initiative since its relaunch earlier this year, supporting recovery efforts following two back-to-back hurricanes and the ongoing post-hurricane drought. Wings CRS remains committed to fostering resilience and recovery for these affected communities.

GUERRERO, MEXICO RECOVERY & RESILIENCE MISSION

The Guerrero, Mexico Recovery & Resilience Mission is dispatching 2 additional water trucks to support our mission to deliver water to 4 needy settlements in the mountains above Acapulco. Our team is making a difference in providing opportunities for families starting new homes in the aftermath of two back-to-back major hurricanes and a subsequent drought.

These communities are in a race against time to rebuild stronger, hurricane-resistant homes before the official start of hurricane season begins on June 1. Water is no only needed for drinking and hygiene but it is needed for mixing cement for their homes. At Wings CRS, we do it all for love as we reflect on our mission and ask ourselves daily this one question, “What is one life worth?

GUERRERO, MEXICO RECOVERY & RESILIENCE MISSION

Guerrero, Mexico – In a determined effort to support recovery and resilience in communities affected by recent natural disasters, our team dispatched three water trucks this week to serve 24 families located on the the highest points above Acapulco.

With the next hurricane season less than four months away, the urgency is mounting for families to build sturdy concrete homes to replace the crude shanties of tarp, tin roofing, and palm tree lumber that currently shelter them. “Access to clean water is a crucial step in making that possible as families work tirelessly to construct safer homes before the next storm season arrives.”

Today orders have been placed to procure at least 2 additional water trucks to continue the recovery & resilience mission in the new settlements in the mountains above Acapulco. We have over 200 designated families which need to complete construction of permanent homes before the official start of hurricane season begins in 3 months.

Guerrero, Mexico Recovery & Resilience Mission

Wings CRS has been delivering an average of one truck of clean water per week to hurricane refugees in (Acapulco) Guerrero, Mexico. With water wells drying up and only two months until hurricane season, we must expand our efforts to 7 trucks per week, costing $1260. Fresh water is crucial not only for drinking and hygiene but also for mixing concrete to build hurricane-resistant homes in government settlement communities.

To help, $23 provides water for one family for a month, and $180 delivers a truck of water to 8 families. Your support is vital for their recovery.

These are the first donations for the month of May and with the government 30 percent water provision, this completes the requirements for the community of Nuevo Horizonte.

The mission needs to raise $4400 this month to complete deliveries to all 400-plus families in need. 300 families need water now to complete their homes before the June 1 deadline.

Wings CRS – Guerrero, Mexico Recovery & Resilience Mission. Today is the offical start of hurricane season in the eastern Pacific! Its a race against time!

On the same day that the official start of hurricane season begins in the eastern pacific, Wings CRS is dispatching 3 more water trucks today to provide a 1 month supply of fresh water for 24 needy families for a total of 9 water trucks this month! Our deliveries are increasing during late April and early May, but we are still way behind the need. After these 3 trucks complete their deliveries this weekend, approximately 276 families will still be without the fresh water they so desperately need for drinking, hygiene and mixing cement to complete their hurricane-resistant homes. That is 276 families at pure risk if a early season storm arises.

The mission needs to raise $4100 this month to complete deliveries to all 400-plus families in need.

Mission Success!

Wings CRS and Raising Cane’s hosted a successful fundraiser yesterday to support families in Guerrero, Mexico still recovering from devastating hurricanes and drought.

The event drew strong community turnout, with all proceeds going toward clean water and rebuilding efforts.

“This is about giving a voice to the voiceless,” said Wings CRS CEO Sir Michael Walters. “We’re relentless in saving these families and we are not stopping until these 4 resettlement communities have achieved sustainability and resiliency against any future storm. It is a mission we at Wings CRS are passionate about.

I also extend my generous thanks to the professional support of the Raising Canes’ organization for this fundraiser which gave us a platform to educate San Antonians about the tragic plight of our neighbors, which has received no media attention outside of the Acapulco area.

WINGS CRS – GUERRERO MEXICO RECOVERY & RESILIENCE MISSION MONTH END UPDATE –

Our recovery work continues!

💧 For the month of May, 110 of the 400 needy families received a full ration of water from Wings CRS. Many of the remaining families received a week’s supply of water from the government. Thankfully Tropical Storm Alvin remained far offshore while spreading its rain bands to provide a small amount of rainwater for all the families.

And today we dispatched 1 additional water truck that will save 8 more families in need of fresh water.

The month of June will certainly come with more challenges for this mission as we continue our efforts to ramp up both the recovery and resilience efforts before the possibility that a tropical storm or hurricane threatens again these fragile families. It is a literal race against time to build water and housing security so that these at-risk lives do not suffer another devastating strike.

WINGS CRS – GUERRERO, MEXICO RECOVERY & RESILIENCE MISSION – NEWS & URGENT APPEAL

Last week, Wings CRS volunteers reached the remote mountain community of Nuevo Horizonte, delivering badly needed food, clothing, and medicine to more than 50 families living in extreme poverty. Volunteers hiked into this devastated region—still reeling from Hurricanes Otis, John, and Erick—to provide relief to pregnant mothers, malnourished children, and the elderly.

Tragically, a newborn baby died due to the absence of emergency care—exposing the critical need for a permanent medical clinic. Wings CRS plans to build a multi-use Life Centre, offering medical and dental services, skills training, a greenhouse, and shelter. For now, a temporary relief hub is underway, but we urgently need help to finish two walls and a concrete roof.

NEW  SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN SEEKS TO SPOTLIGHT GUERRERO RESILIENCE MISSION

WINGS CRS has launched “Do You Know What a Resilient Community Looks Like?” to raise urgent awareness for its Guerrero, Mexico Recovery & Resiliency Mission. The effort is building a self-sustainable community for over 800 impoverished families in the mountains of Acapulco, all displaced by three consecutive hurricanes. With a December 31 completion goal now at risk due to low public support, the mission is working to construct water wells, schools, markets, renewable energy systems, and complete a clinic and storm-resistant homes.

The need is greater than ever as Acapulco’s tourism industry — a main source of local income — struggles to rebuild. Without renewed help, delays will prolong hardship for these four emerging communities. WINGS CRS urges public action now at wings-crs.org/donate — because resilience isn’t built on hope alone.
